A Monk in White, A Pioneer of Hope
Anandalok Hospital was a dream envisioned and manifested by Late Shri Deo Kumar Saraf, a man whose life was shaped by compassion, humility, and an unwavering commitment to humanity.
At the tender age of seventeen, Shri Deo Kumar Saraf experienced a tragedy that would define his life’s purpose. He lost his beloved brother because the family could not afford even a single bag of blood required to save him. The pain of that loss remained etched in his heart and inspired a lifelong mission—to ensure that no individual would be denied healthcare due to financial hardship.
Born into modest circumstances, Shri Saraf was a man of extraordinary simplicity. In the early days, he would personally stitch garments from blankets and fabrics used by patients, ensuring that nothing went to waste and that every available resource could be directed towards helping those in need. His humility, integrity, and deep empathy became the foundation upon which Anandalok was built.
What began as the vision of one compassionate man has today grown into a trusted healthcare institution serving millions of people every year. Across its hospitals and outreach programs, Anandalok continues to provide quality, affordable, and accessible medical care to the underprivileged, ensuring that financial limitations never stand between a patient and the treatment they deserve.
The remarkable growth of Anandalok is also a testament to the dedication of Smt. Sanyukta Jhajharia, daughter of Shri Deo Kumar Saraf, who has worked shoulder to shoulder with her father in carrying forward his ideals and expanding his mission. Under her leadership and guidance, the institution has extended its reach to countless communities, touching the lives of the poor, the vulnerable, and those who need care the most.
Today, Anandalok stands not merely as a hospital, but as a living embodiment of compassion, service, and hope—a legacy built by Shri Deo Kumar Saraf and proudly carried forward by Smt. Sanyukta Jhajharia for generations to come.
“Agar paisa hi jeevan aur mrityu ka faisla kare, toh insaaniyat ka kya moolya reh jaata hai?”
(“If money alone decides between life and death, then what value does humanity truly hold?”)
He could have chosen to move on.
But he chose to rise.
He chose to turn his pain into a promise.
“Jab tak main hoon, kisi ko bhi ilaaj ki kami ke kaaran apna apna na khona pade.”
(“As long as I live, no one should lose their loved one due to lack of treatment.”)
That promise became Anandalok.
It was never just a hospital.
It was an answer to injustice.
A quiet rebellion against a system where the poor are left behind.
With limited resources but limitless determination, Shri Saraf began building what many thought was impossible—a space where treatment would not depend on wealth, but on need… where compassion would not be optional, but fundamental.
There were struggles. There were moments when the path seemed uncertain. But his resolve never weakened, because his mission was deeply personal.
Every patient he saw…
reminded him of the life he could not save.
Every life he helped heal…
became a silent tribute to the brother he lost.
“Seva sirf kartavya nahi, meri zimmedari hai.”
(“Service is not just a duty, it is my responsibility.”)
Over time, Anandalok grew—not just in size, but in soul.
It became a place where the unheard found a voice, where the helpless found dignity, and where healthcare became what it was always meant to be—human.
Today, Anandalok stands as a living legacy of one man’s courage to turn grief into goodness.
Because sometimes, the greatest institutions are not built by ambition—
they are born from love, loss, and an unbreakable promise.
For Ms. Sanyukta Jhajharia, Anandalok is not merely an institution — it is a deeply personal legacy shaped by sacrifice, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to humanity.
From a young age, she stood beside her father, Late Shri Deo Kumar Saraf, witnessing firsthand the struggles of families who arrived at hospital doors burdened not only by illness but also by poverty. She saw how her father transformed his personal grief into a lifelong mission — to build a place where no patient would ever be denied treatment simply because they could not afford it.
Through years of working alongside him, Sanyukta absorbed the values that defined Anandalok: empathy for the vulnerable, dignity for every patient, and the belief that healthcare must remain a service to society rather than a privilege reserved for the few.
Today, as Secretary of Anandalok, she carries forward that responsibility with quiet strength and profound conviction. To her, continuing her father’s work is not merely an administrative duty — it is a promise to uphold the vision he built with dedication and compassion.
Sanyukta firmly believes that healthcare and education are fundamental rights, not privileges. Guided by this belief, she is committed to building inclusive systems where economic hardship never becomes a barrier to survival, dignity, or opportunity.
Her leadership is grounded in compassion, accountability, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to sustainable social impact, ensuring that the mission of Anandalok continues to serve generations to come.
Through her work, the vision of Late Shri Deo Kumar Saraf lives on — not only in the walls of the institution he founded, but in every life touched by the care and humanity that define Anandalok.
Anandalok Hospital was founded in 1981 with a simple yet powerful vision — to make quality healthcare accessible and affordable for all sections of society. What began as a small initiative driven by a deep sense of social responsibility has today grown into a trusted healthcare network serving thousands of patients across West Bengal and beyond.
With over four decades of dedicated service, Anandalok Hospital has evolved into a multi-specialty healthcare institution with 9+ branches, supported by a team of highly qualified doctors, skilled paramedics, and compassionate staff. Our focus has always been on delivering ethical, patient-centric care while maintaining affordability — a principle that continues to define us even today.
We provide treatment for a wide range of medical conditions including cardiac care, pacemaker implantation, eye microsurgery, general and laparoscopic surgeries, tuberculosis treatment, and many more. Alongside, we offer comprehensive diagnostic and pathological services, ensuring complete care under one roof.
What truly sets Anandalok apart is our commitment to high-quality treatment at costs significantly lower than many hospitals and nursing homes, making advanced healthcare accessible to the common people.
Anandalok is a society registered under the West Bengal Society Act, 1961, reflecting our strong foundation in service, transparency, and community welfare.
The journey of Anandalok began in a modest garage in Bangur Avenue, Kolkata, where a small dispensary was started by Mr. Deo Kumar Saraf. With limited resources but immense determination, the clinic provided treatment for tuberculosis, pediatric illnesses, and eye conditions, along with distribution of spectacles at nominal charges.
The early days were marked by sacrifice and dedication. The initial funding came from Mr. Saraf’s personal savings, and to sustain the initiative, he even took up private tuitions. Every rupee earned was reinvested into providing free check-ups and medicines for the underprivileged.
As the clinic gained trust and recognition, local residents, friends, and well-wishers began contributing selflessly. Soon, kind-hearted industrialists from Kolkata extended their support, enabling the expansion of services.
With this collective effort, Anandalok took a major step forward in 1987 with the establishment of a small ICCU hospital at Salt Lake, Kolkata.
1989: A well-equipped ICCU was established to provide advanced cardiac care at highly affordable costs.
Introduction of Eye Microsurgery and Laparoscopic Surgery units, expanding the scope of treatment.
1994: A 21-bed facility was introduced to meet increasing patient demand.
1998: Expansion into South Kolkata with a hospital at Bhowanipore.
In 1999, Anandalok established a 10-storeyed modern hospital at Salt Lake, equipped with advanced infrastructure for critical care and multiple specialties. This marked a significant milestone in our journey toward delivering global-standard treatment at affordable prices.
In 2002, we introduced bypass surgery at a highly subsidized cost, making life-saving cardiac procedures accessible to middle-class families — a rare initiative at that time.
Driven by the mission to serve more people, Anandalok expanded across regions:
Raniganj (2002): Serving patients from Burdwan, Durgapur, Asansol, Jharkhand, and Bihar
Baduria (2005): Bringing modern healthcare to underserved rural populations
Chakulia, Jharkhand: Focused on tribal and economically weaker communities
Beldanga, Murshidabad (2021): A 60-bed hospital providing advanced treatment facilities
Today, Anandalok Hospital stands as a symbol of trust, affordability, and compassionate care. Despite significant growth, we remain deeply rooted in our founding values — serving humanity with dedication, honesty, and empathy.
Our journey from a small garage clinic to a multi-location healthcare network is a testament to what can be achieved with vision, perseverance, and community support.
At Anandalok Hospital, we continue to strive toward
Providing affordable healthcare without compromise
Expanding access to modern medical treatment
Maintaining ethical and transparent practices
Ensuring every patient is treated with dignity and care
